If
you don't know who the Smashing Pumpkins are you deserve
to be shot, and if you know me at all, you know I love
their music. So naturally I was depressed when they
announced that they were breaking up in 2000, but I
was also happy because Billy Corgan announced he was
going to start another band, and here they are, Zwan.
Zwan is not, I repeat, not the Smashing Pumpkins. This
CD sounds nothing like the Smashing Pumpkins so if you're
expecting them forget about it. But Zwan is still a
great band and Mary Star of the Sea is great
proof of it.
This
CD starts off with a song called "Lyric,"
which is a great way to introduce you to this CD. It's
is a very catchy song with a nice refrain you will find
yourself humming all week. The guitars aren't anything
special but are memorable. The next song on the list
goes by the name "Settle Down." Basically
it is Billy trying to stop this girl from settling down
with someone else. The song is kinda light with so so
guitar work but pretty good lyrics to go along with
them.
I
will admit that this CD sounds kinda preppy, but I think
that you will like it if you give it a chance. The downsides
to it are the preppiness and the unstellar guitar work
but if you can deal with that it is pretty good. I definitely
recommend this CD to anyone who liked the Smashing Pumpkins
or any band like them. If I had to compare it it with
the Smashing Pumpkins I would say it sounds like a mix
between Meloncholy and the Infinite Sadness and
Adore. So yeah, good CD. Go buy it.
