American Hardcore: A Tribal History

American Hardcore presents the American hardcore punk music scene of 1980-1986 through the eyes of Steven Blush (author, ex-promoter) and the many ex-scensters he interviewed over a five-year period. The book is divided into individual chapters based on regional scenes and bands rather than topic or time period. For example, the Misfits received their own chapter, and there are several scenes covered, some broadly, some in depth like LA, DC, Boston, and the Midwest. Each chapter is basically filled with lines from the interviews, straight facts from Blush, and photos from personal collections. Many of the interviewees are recurring and were especially important to the scene, like Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, and Greg Ginn, and provide some excellent, if not sometimes obscure, info.

With such extensive research, experience, and reliable sources, Blush's American Hardcore is probably the ultimate authority on the international hardcore scene of the 80's. There's even a cassette/vinyl discography in the back. Those who missed out can at least get a general idea of what was going on with this wealth of information.
